Quality Authority
RCW 90.70
The Puget Sound Water Quality Authority was created in 1985 to
develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive water
quality management plan for Puget Sound. The first plan was published
in 1987 and was revised in 1989, 1991, and 1994. The plan also
has been adopted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as
the federal plan for protecting Puget Sound.
Per RCW 43.131.370 (Washington Sunset Act), the Puget Sound Water
Quality Authority ceased to exist on June 30, 1996.
Chapter 138, Laws of 1996, transferred the duties and functions
of the Puget Sound Water Quality Authority pertaining to cleanup
and protection of the waters of Puget Sound to the Puget Sound Water Quality
Action Team within the Office of the Governor effective June 30,
1996. All data related to the cleanup and protection of Puget
Sound have been transferred to the Office of the Governor and
are shown in that agency for comparability purposes.
